News and hints for the upcoming semester
  • OPTICON funding
Observers who intend to apply for OPTICON funding have to submit their application via the NORTHSTAR tool:
    http://proposal.astro-opticon.org/

  • DFG funding
The deadlines for applications for DFG funding are as follows:
    • Spring semester: 15.11.
    • Autumn semester: 15.05.

  • OMEGA-Cass
OMEGA-Cass is available only in imaging mode, with a fixed scale of 0.2"/pixel (high-res mode)

  • Service Mode
Programmes in service mode will be generally performed during service blocks. This gives the observatory more flexibility to react on changing observing conditions so that the programmes will benefit from higher efficiency.

  • DDT
Observations during Director's Discretionary Time (DDT) are included in the service blocks. The instruments for which DDT can be applied are preferably those ones mounted during these blocks Find details here.

  • Reminder:
    • Please be specific and quantitative when exposing your science case. General and hazy science cases can severely hurt your chances during the TAC review process.
    • Due to operational constraints Calar Alto is only able to accommodate a limited number of ToO programs. Operationally very demanding ToO programs are not encouraged.
    • Note that you are requested to indicate in the template the "Application Type" (Long, Instrumental, Repetitive, Multiple). Misclassified applications are likely to be reviewed in a non optimal way.
