Omega 2000 - Electronics

The MPIA electronics department developed a generic read out electronics system which can be adapted to all kind of detectors. The first sets of electronics will be used for MIDI and Omega2000. All patterns requirred for controling the detector are generated on UNIX side and are downloaded via serial line to the RO electronics from the GEIRS software.

The instrument control software is basically the motor controller and a positioning system for the three filter wheels. All the motors and positioning sensors are in the dewar at 77 Kelvin. The motors are from Phytron. The positioning system is a 3 bit Hall sensor system which allows the identification of 7 positions per wheel.

The temperature (LakeShore) and preasure (Balzers) monitoring systems are comercial units. All serial communication is done through a terminal server (NPort -8) located on the frontring next to the hardware, so only one ethernet line is feed up to the telescope.
