Omega 2000 - Mechanics

The mechanics of Omega2000 are split in two working packages. The cryogenic vacuum dewar on one side and the internal mechanics as detector mount, lens mount, filter wheel mechanism on the other side. The dewar will be designed and purchased from a commercial company. All the internal mechanics will be designed and manufactured at MPIA. Since we use cryogenic motors, the mechanical interface of these two is simple to realize.

For mounting the dewar on the telescope, we modify an existing frontring particularly for the use with Omega2000. A mirror baffle system (two ellipsoidal mirrors - one fix, one moveable) is designed to reduce background seen from the detector due to warm environment.

The dewar and the modified frontring are manufactured already.

The first parts of the dewar are finished.

The shields demonstrate the impressive size of the dewar.
