Calar Alto Computer News for January to June 2000
1. Hardware
- The Calar Alto Network has been improved with the addition of 3 Giga Switches. Now 2.2m, 3.5m and Laboratory are connected with 1Gbps bandwidth. 1.23 is connected with 100Mbps
- Laboratory has now a more switched network allowing more bandwidth for end users
- Jobs for allowing 10 modems for remote PPP connections has been started.
2. Software
- New IRAF version without the Y2K bug. Version is 2.11.3
- StarOffice 5.1 suite installed for general use at Solaris
- Secure shell (ssh) installed
- Obseving accounts obs1a to obs3b have been unified, protecting configuration files
- New Data Base for Night Reports has been built on the system. All night reports will be stored and can be consulted any time
- Meteorological data has been inserted into EPICS1
- NTP (Network Time Protocol) has been installed on all instrumentation computers
- ds9 installed
3. Personnel
- We have a new coleague on the Computer group. Ricardo Hernández started up on May 29th
