Calar Computer News for 2002

 

1. Hardware

  • A new SUN Ultra 80 (called ultra35) is now running for LAICA project
  • Since june, a new Linux Server is running. It is also the gate to the DHCP and our Private Network and it has other kind of facilities too.
  • New computer for our Astronomy group set up
  • Increased the number of modems up to four
  • Jobs forwarding to have network on Hotel rooms started


2. Software

  • FFL: the same as for 3.5m is now available for 2.2m
  • New Weather Web Page features, including night graphics and moon calendar
  • Lots of security jobs including better filtering on the router, patch installation an upgrade of several critical applications
  • New ftp configuration
  • Package Dimsum is now available under Iraf
  • Eclipse program running under Solaris
  • Midsum package installed on Midas
  • Programs obscat35 and obscat22 (courtesy of Mr. Thiele) allow you to work with catalogues. They can be launched several times in order to work with different catalogues
  • DHCP has been moved from the Windows computer to a Linux one. The DHCP and Private Network lay on SuSE 8.0 Linux, acting as a router and firewall between our main network and the private one. On that Linux Server you can find SciSoft too.
  • Software for 1.23m Telescope Dome Automatization, in collaboration with Electronic Group has been prepared. Although final tests will be carried out on 2003, version 1.0 is finished. See a detailed description here (epigraph 10th on that documentation)
