Calar Alto Observatory and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing at University of Zagreb have signed an agreement to collaborate on education and research. After the agreement on the large project of an accelerator of particles (IFMIF-DONES) in Granada, this is another example of scientific collaboration between Spain and Croatia.
The University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (UNIZG FER) and Centro Astronómico Hispano en Andalucia (CAHA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed with the objective of promoting academic cooperation in education and research and it was signed by the UNIZG FER Dean Professor Dr. Vedran Bilas and the CAHA Director Dr. Jesús Aceituno Castro.
FER and CAHA have agreed to foster collaboration between their institutions. The parties wish to develop scientific and technical collaborations in astronomy, astrophysics, and computing in a wide range of areas of common interest. These may include, between and among the institutions, the development of technologies, instruments, and software, promoting the advancement of education, research, and services, and strengthening friendly cooperation.
This cooperation will contribute to the fostering and development of initiatives involving an exchange of information between FER and CAHA, promoting this cooperation among the institution’s staff, researchers, and students, offering opportunities to students and researchers to collaborate on innovative research and development projects, supporting or supervising research projects of Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral thesis, applying to EU and industry funds, and other activities of mutual interest.
FER’s Dean Prof. Dr. Vedran Bilas stated his satisfaction with this new collaboration between the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing and the Calar Alto Observatory and stated: “I believe that this joint collaboration with Calar Alto Observatory is an excellent opportunity for our students and researchers to expand their scientific research to the areas of astronomy, astrophysics and astronomical instrumentation.”
Director of CAHA Dr. Jesús Aceituno Castro stated: “We are very proud to be able to offer to FER’s researchers, and in particular students, to collaborate on our innovative research and development projects at the forefront of modern astrophysics. This is also an important opportunity for Calar Alto because from collaboration like this one we directly benefit from the knowledge, scientific and academic excellence coming from renowned institutions such as FER.”
